Hysteresis Tensioning Brakes

Tensioning Brakes are a simple way to provide controlled tension during a wide variety of spooling, winding, wrapping, tightening and machining operations. Rugged and durable, Tensioning Brakes provide constant torque unaffected by rotation speed. A variety of mounting options and bolting configurations are available for Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) equipment and replacement units.

Features:

  • Brakes operate on a twin magnetic disk Hysteresis (constant torque) principle that provides overload and jam load protection
  • Mechanically assembled and field repairable
  • Permanent magnet technology—no power and no wear parts
  • Graduated adjustments for repeatable and recordable settings
  • Custom designs for unique applications
  • SMB-120, the largest permanent magnet brake available
  • Application CD-ROM for quick, reliable application solutions

Benefits:

  • Protects drive train
  • Low maintenance cost
  • Economical solution
  • Reduced setup time
  • Wider application solutions
  • Faster service

Applications:

Tensioning Brakes are used for a variety of spooling, winding, wrapping, tightening and machining operations.

  • Motor/drive overload protection
  • Soft start
  • Repetitive cycling operations
  • Bottle capping
  • Friction-band replacement

In the maximum, “like” magnetic poles are on the opposite sides of the center Hysteresis Disk. Magnetic lines of force travel through the narrow disk, producing a powerful magnetic field. In the minimum position, lines of force are relaxed, easing the magnetic field strength. As the hysteresis disk rotates through the alternating magnetic field, a resistance force builds. This resistance force is converted to constant torque unaffected by rotation speed.
